There are lots of Nigerian business people who are at the ideation stage and who haven't gotten any level of traction in their business and who are wondering should I continue or should I stop? And that's the reason why I'm making today's episode. Just in case I used to many technical terms. Let me slow it down and let me flesh it out a bit. In fact, let me give an example. There's someone who's reached out to me. Let's just call him Tiger.
The Tiger, of course, not his real name. But of course, if you hear this and you're wondering is this me, then yes, actually, this is you. So Tiger the Tiger reached out to me recently. Let me check my messages. When did he reach out to me? I can't see the date. OK, so he reached out to me on Saturday. Today is the what's today's date? The 23rd? OK, today is Monday, the 23rd of March. And so he reached out to me the Saturday prior.
So you can see that our chat is just a couple of days old now. He reached out to me because he's been listening to the podcast on Spotify and he says he has a lot going on on his head. Oh, by the way, for those of you who are discovering the podcast for the first time, make sure you subscribe on Spotify, on Apple iTunes, you know, Youtubes, wherever it is that you get your audio content so that as we drop useful, valuable episodes, you can always stay up to date.
Then if you'd like to reach out to me, just like how Tiger the Tiger, again, not his real name. If you want to reach out to me, just like how Tiger reached out, you want to connect, then you can call me, send me a text message or a WhatsApp message on 08064662140. So take a sense. He has a lot that's going on on his head. And of course I was like, sure, all right, no Allah, no problem. Just shoot your shot. Let's see what you're dealing with.
Now. The reason why I take that attitude is because, first of all, I like meeting people who listen to the podcast because I genuinely want to know where you guys are at, the kind of business problems that you're facing so that I can make podcast episodes that directly address those sorts of problems. I don't want to stay here talking theory, theory, theory. Meanwhile, those of you who are my loyal listeners are going through some very practical difficulties that I am not addressing.
So that's also another reason why I say, you know, folks should reach out just like Tiger did. Again, the number is 08064662140. But I have to clarify one thing. So as I look, is it that you have a lot to share, Abby, you're seeking for a solution Because as much as I like talking to you guys and you will have a lot on your minds, the truth of matter is, you know, I run the business. So we have to keep our conversations, you know, tight,
tight, tight, tight, you know, sharp, sharp, sharp, so that we can drill down to exactly what it is that is on the person's mind. Also, because I'm a sales coach and a business development consultant, so there's a sales problem, I can help you do that. But if you have a lot that you're trying to get off your chest, I'm probably not the person you should be speaking to because I don't have training in mental health, in psychology, in psychotherapy, in psycho.
Kinney Kong, Kinney Kong, all these different things. I don't have training and all that, so I might not be able to help. So Tega clarifies that he actually seeking a solution and cool, no problem, I can work with that. So he said he was listening to the podcast where I spoke about personal branding as a financial asset and also talking about passion. And then Tega mentions that he has different ideas. 1, he wants to start a movie production outfit.
Another 1, he wants to build a media brand. Then he also wants to start a creator hub. Then he also wants to build a startup in Ed tech that is education tech. And then he doesn't know exactly where it is that he wants to start from. And now he's going to make money and get an impact in Nigeria. Now, for those of you who are regular listeners, you'll remember that I actually do have a framework for this, and that is how to start your business or how to create your business in three easy steps.
Number one, it means that we have to pick the right idea #2 we have to validate the idea to be sure that there's market demand that people not only like the idea, but they're also willing to pay for the idea and pay enough that will make sense for you to continue. And then we'll now build a selling framework around it. So that is the three-step framework that I use to make sure that my clients start off business the right way.
And of course, yes, when we're talking about which one to select, yes, that's where we look at things like what's your passion, What are you talented in, excuse me, you know, things like that. So yeah, all of that has to do is that one. But The thing is, honestly speaking, if you're going to enter into your business journey and you're going to have 345 ideas just like tech I did does, sorry, let's repeat. He wants to start a movie production outfit.
That is 1. He wants to build a media brand. That's another one. I'm not sure what that means anyway, building a media brand. Then he wants to start a creator hub. That's another one. He wants to do a startup in education tech. So that is for business, for ideas. Now, you're not going to get off the ground if you're trying to push 4 things at the same time. So I'm glad that he wants to start 1. He wants to pick one. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how talented you are, you actually have to pick one because you're not going to make progress otherwise.
So I told him like, dude, that's a lot. And you listen to the podcast, so you know the deal you actually have to narrow down. But still, I didn't get one question from him. So I told him, you know that this is how it works. I can answer one question for free, or we can schedule a paid session so we can start sorting through and entangling all these issues because in this case, there is a lot to untangle. So I asked him, which do you prefer?
Then the guy said, not surprisingly, that he would like to try the one question for free. I said OK sure, no problem. So what is your one question? Think about it. And then he asked, with all these ideas I have now how do I know which one to start? So 9 I begin to laugh because I was kind of confused. So excuse me, I'm recovering from a sore throat. So it means that he has all these ideas, but he hasn't actually started on any of them or that's what I thought.
So I was like, Guy, are you at the dreaming stage, Abby, you have actually tried one or two of these things. And then he said that, well, he's kind of confused because he's starting on the movie production stage and they're currently in pre production, but they haven't started shooting. Pre production is where you do things like you guys write the script, what else? OK, you guys write the script, you come up with the idea,
you're probably thinking about actors, thinking about locations. No, things like that. That is what pre production is about. So he says that currently at the pre production stage and he wants to know whether he should keep going. So I had to give him some Franco opinion. And if you're in this situation, this is the Franco opinion I'm going to give you now because the pre production stage now just the planning stage as per with a try reason, one or two things.
If you are at this stage ideation stage, dreaming stage, planning stage, you know, with a plan as we go, you know implements, but you never done the implements like you actually haven't started doing a couple of things and you're asking should I stay or should I stop? Your question is premature because you have not reached any roadblock, you have not gotten any comma, any K leg, you haven't gotten any traction or you haven't gotten any negative signal from the market that says go ahead or do not go ahead.
So this question is premature. So I told him there are a couple of things we'll have to look at would would have to look at if you have 345 ideas, you've tried a couple of things. Which ones gave you the most tractions? That's where did you make the most progress in terms of making some money or in terms of getting people to sign up for your product or service or whatever? What kind of traction did you achieve in trying to move forward?
Where did you face impediment? Where did you face roadblock? Where did you face comma? Where did you face difficulty then of these ideas that you've been exploring, which one do you feel as if you know will give you money? You know, get by. You won't give you financial return or I won't give you personal fulfillment. But The thing is, you need to have done enough so that we can answer that question. Have we made traction?
Have we hit roadblock? Have we been making small money? Where have we made money easy? Where where we're making money be difficult. Which one they sweet me, Which one am I enjoying? Which one will I not? You know, you actually have to be doing something first at the dreaming stage or at the planning stage. We actually can't answer that question. Should I stay or should I go? Should I advance or should I retreat? Should I pick this one or should I drop that one?
You haven't done enough yet. And so that's why I told him I can't answer the question because I don't have any data. So if you are about enter into the entrepreneurial space in Nigeria, you want to make a good go of it. You're still at the ideation stage, you're still coming up with ideas. Honestly speaking, until you actually start doing something, walk somewhere, go somewhere, talk to one or two people, try to sell.
So until you do something, we don't have enough data. There's no information on ground that we can usually decide should we go forward or should we? Should we go backward? We actually have to do something. You can't stay at the planning stage and then decide this is a good idea or this is a bad idea. Because honestly speaking, on paper, everything is a good idea until you try executing it. Is it is when you try to execute that you know that OK, this is a good idea, but I don't have the skill set to make this thing move forward or I don't have the resources to help this thing move forward, or I don't have the connections to help this thing move forward or you know,
or I don't have the personal interest, but we actually have to try something. So please reach out to me 08064662140. I'd love to help you solve your business problems, but if you had the ideational stage, you suppose try one or two things first. At least then we'll have some data about whether we're to move forward or whether we're to make AU turn or whether we're to pivot or whether we're to do whatever. But you have to try something first, and then for those of you who want free coaching, think really hard about what you want your free question to be.
But anyway, it sounds as if Tega the Tiger is paid off now because of you. It's not a cheap something. Honestly speaking, if you're coming from Tega's background, you're one of these upper middle class kids, You know, you have money to finance a movie, they actually have money to build an Ed tech, or you have money to run the Co working space. Come on, don't be cheap. Don't be cheap. It's just a couple 100 grand. Get a coach, get somebody behind you and let's solve this problem.
So that's it. Thank you very much for listening. I will catch you all some other time and then remember if you want to connect just like Tega de Tiger did. The number to call me to send me a text message or a WhatsApp message is 08064662140.
