Hello and welcome to the podcast today. OK, well, not today. Today we're going to talk about the conversation that I had with a feminist. So this is my first feminist conversation, but don't worry, it didn't have anything to do with feminism, but rather we were discussing influencer marketing, affiliate income, you know, things of our nature. Those are the sorts of things that we discussed. So since she's a feminist and I
haven't gotten permission to use her real name, let's just call her IFA. So yeah, I'm going to share the conversation I had with IFA, who's a feminist. And just in case some of you are wondering, IFA, is that a real name? Yes, IFA is is a real name. It's a Yoruba word and I think it means love, if I remember correctly. I can't remember because I've been out of that part of the country for a very long while because I did my law degree in No Bafemiwalu University.
Oh, by the way, my name is Tavishima Ayede. I'm a former lawyer turned business consultant. If you'd love to connect with me and have a conversation with me just like if I did, whether we're going to talk about feminism or business, it's not a problem. So reach out on 0806466 2140. But today I'm going to share the aspects of our conversation that covered influencer marketing and affiliate income. OK, before I begin, maybe a rough definition so that if you're listening to the podcast for the first time, you'll catch what is going on now influencer marketing.
Now when you hear influencer, influencer marketing, everybody in Nigeria already has an idea of what an influencer is or who an influencer is. But I want to correct 1 misunderstanding. For lots of people, they look at the size of the audience and that is what makes them to term someone an influencer. So like some people hear that I have a podcast and I have 4200 subscribers and it's like you're an influencer. And I've corrected them that,
look, no, it's not by the size of the audience. Influencers are called influencers not just because they have big followings, but because influencers are able to get the people who subscribe to them or who follow them or who are their fans, They're able to get them to do something else. Influencers can move the needle. Influencers can move the crowd. Influencers get stuff done. So it doesn't mean that somebody has 4000 subscribers, therefore is an influencer.
No, if I was a sort of individual that when I speak my 4000 followers, we move, uh huh. Then you call me an influencer, but I'm not at that level yet. So you subscribe to the podcast, you listen to the podcast, you find what I say to be valuable, but I don't have that level of influence over your lives. So I can't 'cause you guys to do anything now. That's the reason why, what's her name? Kim Kardashian. You know, that's the reason why Kim Kardashian gets paid good money, because when Kim Kardashian speaks, people move.
If Kim Kardashian says buy this bag, people buy when her younger sister, I can't remember that one's name, the one with the makeup brand, when the younger one says buy this lipstick, people move. So it's called influence influencer marketing. It's not about the size of the audience, but the fact that these people are able to get people to take certain actions, especially when we're talking about business. So me, no, not an influencer,
but if you have somebody who only has 1000 people subscribe to his podcast, but every single time the guy or the girl speaks people move that person is an influencer. So for those of you who are thinking of using influencer marketing for your businesses, please do not get deceived by anybody that has big, big audience. It is not by the size of the audience. It is whether that person is able to get the audience to actually take action on something now because that is the key thing whether people take action or not.
When you're dealing with influencer marketing, also don't be deceived by the number of the size of the audience. You also want to make sure that it's actual, that they have actual people who are the audience because, you know, nowadays people can use bots, people can use paid audiences, all kinds of things to inflate their figures. And I'm currently talking to someone right now who I suspect is in that kind of a quandary.
But the guy, no one come out. I use his own mouth to say, bro, you know what? I actually paid for this thing. The guy doesn't want to come out. I said. But look, The thing is when you have the services of a consultant like me, you actually need to tell us the truth so that we can start diagnosing what is wrong with your business. I will know where to move next. Apart from that, any consultant who is worthy assault will have a certain level of confidentiality about how they conduct their businesses.
So there's stuff that you will tell me that I cannot go and loud it over the Internet even if I want to, you know, use you as case study. I will anonymize or something. Nobody will know that it is you. So if you reach out to me in the future, you want me to help you diagnose a couple of business problems or you have some questions that you want answered, you need to let me know. If you're exploring influencer marketing and you have an audience, 50,000 followers,
100,000 followers, whatever, and you're wondering why am I not making money, you have to level with me. If I ask you how did you acquire this audience? Did you pay? Is it bought? Is it? You need to let me know. You need to let me know because it's then I'll be able to give you the right business advice. So just in case there's someone listening to this podcast right now who is willing to try influencer marketing for his business or you consider yourself an influencer, you have 100,000 followers.
You don't know why you're making money. You want somebody to help you figure this thing out, then reach out. You can call, send me a text message or a WhatsApp message on 08064662140. Now related to influencer marketing, there's something called affiliate marketing or you know, affiliate income or whatever it is that we want to call it. Now, affiliates just means, and I put it now, so you remember when we're back in universities,
back in the days when people had club and cult, Yeah, club and cult are not the same. But anyway, let me just leave you at that level, OK, Let me say club, let me just let me leave cults out of it. Let me leave secret cults. So clubs now for those of us who went to 'cause I went to over you, we had clubs there, social clubs. Then at least in Unilac there was clubs as well. UI also had some clubs, although I heard that UI clubs are dry.
Then where again like schools had club shop. Now you have people who are members of the club. When you're a member of the club, it means that you have paid your dues, you have gone for the ceremony, you know where they induct you, you do your inductor ceremony and everything like that. So you are a member, excuse me, of the club. Then there are some people who are not members of the club. But anytime where the club get activities, you know, you'll see them around, you know, you know,
helping out, you know, whether it's arranging transport or maybe just catching trips or donating one or two things or whatever. Shall now those kind of people are called affiliates. Affiliate means, you know, not be my teens per SE, but sure I am. I am here and you know, we they run them together. So affiliate marketing is when it is not your own thing, but you will join with somebody and you go run them together, but the thing belongs to the other person.
So let's say I have a product that I'm selling now. Let's say my product is 50 days to a billion naira. So let's say I have a product I'm trying to sell now, a coaching session, 50 days to a billion naira. The coaching program is my own now because some of you listen to the podcast. You have faith in me, you know, you know you believe in me. Some of you might want to get a slice of the action. You say, oh boy, how far.
Now that is your program, 50 days to 1 billion naira. Let me help you market this your program. Then what you do is you will give me 10% for everybody who signs up to the program. You know something like that. Maybe for this program 50 days to be on, maybe I'm charging people 1.2 M each. So the people now who come forward and say look, I listen to your podcast, I'd love to support the program. I know some people like I hook you up out of that 1.2.
Just give me 10% only. So each time I send you one customer and you close the deal, you will give me Commission of 120 K. Now that kind of person will be an affiliate. All right, So that's how it works. Because the program, not my own, is my own team. Then this other person is not with me. Which are the best ones to join hand with me? So go run together. So you can see. Are they the same? Well, there's some similarities,
but they're different. OK, so influencer marketing, affiliate marketing. Now the reason why we're looking at that today is because this lady now the feminist Eva, if it reached out to me, she's currently a 200 level law student at IMOS State University and she's been listening to the podcast for a while. She thinks the podcast is great and impactful. She's been listening for a few weeks and so she wants, she had some questions that she wanted to ask me and like I say, I'm OK
with giving free advice. So you want free business coaching, that is not a problem. You want free consulting, that is not a problem. Just call me, send me a text message or a WhatsApp message on 080646621400. By the way, apologies, I'm making today's recording at church. It's the weekend, kids are at cats and classes, so you're going to hear some noise in the background. So, so if you want to reach out just like if because you have some questions to ask, I'll give you my number 08064662140.
So if you're going to reach out just like if I did in the very first message or in the very first phone call, let me know. Now what you're looking for is free coaching or free consulting. Then I will answer only one question. So think really hard about what that one question is before you call or before you send me a text message. Then if you want us to go in depth, you want us to do a deep dive. So let's say you are an influencer, you have 500,000
followers on Facebook where you're not making any money. You want free advice? No problem. And that's only one question. But if you want us to go in depth and start looking at, you know, the makeup of your audience, what products are you trying to sell, looking at your conversions, your conversion ratios when dealing with your with your customers, sorry, with your potential customers. Let's see what I was trying to figure out any customer service issues that you've had, trying to optimize your offering, you know, things like that.
You want us to go in depth, We'll have to book a consulting session. Now you can book a monthly session so that I'm working with you almost every other day trying to keep you accountable on stuff. It can be a weekly session, it can be a daily session, it can be an hourly session, depending on what it is that you can afford. So yeah, reach out just like if I did. Oh, by the way, if you find the podcast valuable, just like if I
did, please share the podcast so they can grow so that other people can find value as well. And if s s is going to share it with our people who are in IMSU. So yeah. So I'm looking, I'm looking forward to that. So share the podcast so that people can get value from it as well. Then let's see. OK, so she had a question to ask. Let me see. So I'm scrolling through the messages right now. I didn't really, you know, type out any script for this broadcast episode.
So I'm just running through the messages and then give my impressions live. So if I learnt influencer marketing for brands, OK, I didn't ask her where she learned it, but yeah, she learned influencer marketing and she said she's finding it hard to get started because she doesn't feel aligned with what it is that she's doing. Now remember what I said about influencer marketing? That is not just about the size of the audience.
Some of you, you go and get an audience, you know, 100,500 thousand 600,000 and then excuse me. Because of that, you think of yourselves as an influencer because you take influencer marketing course, that is not the case. You know, let's be humble. So yeah, because I just said it here, yes, I have 4200 subscribers on Spotify alone, not to talk of the other podcasting platforms, but The thing is when I talk, people don't move.
I can't move markets, all right? So it is people who move numbers that we call influencers. And that's the reason why I gave the example of this lady Kim Kardashian and her family. If my younger sister says buy lipstick, people buy. In fact, the I remember the second run, I don't know because the sister has been doing it for a while now, but I stopped following her after she released her second batch. The first batch that she released two days, they sold out everything.
She released lipstick and she say Oh yeah, my people come and buy 2 days. They finish everything. The second run and that's was after that I stopped following her. I'm not on social media anymore. The second run, I think it was 3 hours, I'll be 4 hours that they sold everything. That is what you call influencer. When they speak, people move. If you're not at that level yet, be humble. You have not yet arrived. You are not an influencer.
Even though you have the numbers and even though you have studied the course, you are not yet an influencer. You will get there in Jesus name, but you're not there yet. Well, personally speaking, I tell people not to even look at influencer marketing. That's not business people. If you're a business person and you want to pay an influencer to market your products or services, you know that's cool, but that you know, you don't get money and you know, you define what you go to.
And then you say, oh, let me because become an influencer. I tell people not to do that because influencer becoming an influencer and all this, it is hard. It is hard because there's a lot that is required to build a loyal audience. And building a loyal audience takes time. And some people don't have the patience, which is why they go and start buying, buying audience, buying bots, buying follower and then stuff like that.
At the end of the day, you'll just be deceiving yourself because you have an audience, you know of 1,000,000 followers and then you go and meet some companies then they will give you money. But The thing is Nigeria is a small place and people talk. After a while, people will start saying don't mind that babe, yes, you get 1,000,000 follower but if you give her money, nothing is coming out of it, nothing. You will ruin your reputation.
The thing will not work. It happens a lot, I see it all the time. In fact I first saw it back in my wedding photography days. Back then people wanted their Instagram handles look good. No need to to beef it up to go and be buying followers. So you see a photographer who has you know 20,000 followers, but meanwhile the guy is broke. What does it profit you if you have 20,000 followers on Instagram but you're broke? The reason why you're broke is because yes you have 20,000
followers but all those followers, they not be human being. All of them is bots or paid followers in Afghanistan and Mogadishu and in India, you know who are not concerned in wedding photography and even when they're ready to get married, like how would they even book yourself? They're not even in Nigeria. So it's not the size of the audience. Please, let's stop be being infatuated with number, number, number. It's not just about number, it's about quality.
Quality. What's the quality of people that are following you? And then about the depth of the relationship so that when you talk, people move. All right, I always remember Kim Kardashian's younger sister. I can't remember her name, the one that sells lipstick that is a Bang Line influencer because when she talks, people move. All right. What was I? So influencer marketing is hard because you have to build an audience.
Build an audience is a very long term something. You can't do it in the short term. It requires extreme focus because you have to be very deliberate about the kind of things you talk about and, you know, things like that. I'll be focused with the content that you put out and things like that. Then another reason why I stay, stay, I say stay away from influencer marketing when you're looking for your daily bread is because everybody's talking about how you monetize, how you monetize, how you monetize.
Yes. And then we hear stories about this guy, what's his name, this pastor Jerry Izzy. Jerry Izzy with his YouTube channel, I can't remember, I think it was like in December or so at some point, like he his YouTube channel was like the the second most watched YouTube channel in the world in the world. I said, how this boy do I arrive? So even if it's just the advertising revenue and it's all this cobot, cobot cobot that they're giving him.
I mean, think about it now 5050 cobot from one one person, you know, you collect, you know from like 2 billion people. Is it no, is it no? Money isn't no something. So we hear about Jerry, Arizona and the rest of them and then we're now thinking, ah, ah, ah, influence monetization, monetization, monetization. Almost not like that. Because before you monetize the platform, we give you some criteria. You suppose reach some thresholds.
Now I can't remember the thresholds off the top of my head, but listen so that you know what it is you're up against me that I have 4200 followers on on Spotify. Ask me whether I qualify for monetization. Guess what 4000 followers. I no qualify. I don't qualify Shishi actually let you people know the level of work they need to do you people behind influencer influencer, influencer. I've seen say money day, money day and well, there's there's money is there, but man in the work the threshold that you have to reach for Spotify.
I don't know what the threshold is, but I can assure you if you have 4000 followers, you never 4000 subscribers, you never reach, you never qualify. You cannot monetize nothing. You don't monetize your channel. The same thing for YouTube. YouTube, is it 500? OK, No, I think for YouTube it's the number of hours that have been watched on your channels or something like that. But the thresholds are a lot bigger than what you guys think.
Let me repeat, before you monetize your channel, the threshold that is required is a lot bigger than what you guys think. Now I didn't do this research ahead of time, but I can tell you in full confidence as of the date of this recording in 2026 that if you are on Spotify and you have 4000 subscribers, you qualify for nothing. You cannot monetize nothing, nothing. So it's hard work and that's the reason why I tell people, oh,
you want to grow up and become an influencer? That's what I tell people. My guy, stay away, my babe, run away. Go and do something else. Don't go and do influencer marketing. But anyway. Nobody listens to me when I give that kind of advice. Maybe they feel as if I'm. Holding the limelight like I only want to chop it by myself, you know? Anyway, let me move. So of course we started talking about what it is that she likes talking about, and you know,
what she feels drawn to and stuff like that. And then she said she's a feminist and she loves talking about feminism. So that's how feminism entered the picture. So. Yifa has been thinking about being a feminist influencer, but she's worried that she's not going to be able to make money from that. And by the way, this is not true Behemoth. Whether you're a radical. Feminist or you're a radical. I don't know, masculinist.
I don't know what the male version is. Whatever it is, you can make money as an influencer of anything. The way that influencers make money is they sell stuff. That is, you sell your own things. Like Kim Kardashian's younger sister, that babe she they sell stuff when she released her lipstick. Clear out. She's selling her own stuff. Then you can also make money as an influencer by endorsing stuff. So Kim Kardashian herself, once she endorsed something, they give her Gupali.
OK, so. As an influencer, that's apart from reaching monetization thresholds and then making money on advertisements and things like that. Your money will come from you are selling something or you are endorsing something. So as a feminist, who said you cannot sell something or who said you cannot endorse something? Or who said you cannot? Reach the minimum thresholds for the platforms and then you can start making advertising revenue.
Who said it's not possible? It is possible. If you just figure out. Who is the audience? OK, you're families, right? No problem. You don't amass audience. No problem. Who's in the audience and what are the kind of things that they will buy? What are the kind of things? That I will sell. Those are the questions. So I just want you to know right now, all right, whether you're a feminist or whether you're a fundamental Christian or whether you're whatever.
You can make money from. Doing this game. My honest. Advice as your brother is still to tell you not to pursue this influence again because man that game had very very hard. There is a things you can do but sure as a feminist you can make money as a feminist influencer. So any other feminists want to be influencer like if who is listening do not be afraid you can make good money on this thing but hard work is involved which is the reason why I say please do not for start there is a ways to make money.
Now she has. What should she do? Because she's tired of. Going between today she will talk feminism, tomorrow she will talk small business or her channels. So at first I tried. To be sharp, to see how you can kill two birds with one stone. Because you know creativity. Now whenever you can blend 2 things together is OK. So I told her how about focusing on small businesses that are run by women. That way you know all blend.
Don't make sense now. Abby. So yeah. Sometimes you can synthesize your ideas and that's what I was proposing. But then I was wrong because iffair what she now said was sorry 1 moment. Sorry, one moment I. Was just taking off my glasses. I was recording with my glasses and you know, there's no need. I'll use my glasses when I'm reading. Really. So where was I? So. Iffair, she said that OK, that yeah, ordinarily that would seem like it's a good idea, but it doesn't apply in her own case because the kinds of things that she talks about when she's talking about families matters.
What she talks about are. So by the way, I hope there are no children listening to this particular podcast episode. If there's any child listening now, you're a parent, you're leaving, this podcast is running in the car. Your children are listening. Please. This is the point where you pause the podcast because you know from here the rest of the podcast episode might not be suitable for children, particularly young children.
OK. All right. So I'll give some time just just for those who are listening with the children in the car so they can they can pause. So I'm assuming that the pause they will continue later and let me continue for the rest of you. So what if you like to talk about is rape and she likes to talk about sexual assault? So. You can see in that case, you can't really synthesize it now because you can't be talking about small Business Today and then tomorrow you're talking about rape and sexual assault because, you know, the the gap is too is too much.
It's too much. There's no sweet spot. So. But T, how can I put it? OK, before I continue, let me just give a personal, personal comment, especially since I studied feminist jurisprudence in OAU. Jurisprudence is the study of legal philosophy. Let's just put it that way, legal philosophy and I studied feminist jurisprudence back in OAU because. You know, even though I've been out of school. For how long now? I can't remember, let's just say 20.
Years. So even though I've been out of school for 20 years, even at the time when I was in school, I could tell that this families thing was going to become a big deal. So I wanted to learn this thing properly, you know, from a legal point of view, from a philosophical point of view. So when I saw that was offered as a course Families use jurisprudence, I, I, I took the course straight up. So. You know, lots of, you know,
young ladies running around saying you're feminist. Well, see The thing is talking about rape and sexual assault does not make you a feminist. It doesn't. It just makes you a decent human being because rape and sexual assault are are wrong. Whether it is man doing it to woman or woman doing it to men. Surprisingly, that's one thing I learned when I was in OAU. Surprisingly, yes, women do assault men. So it happens. Or older women assaulting younger boys.
You know these things happen. OK, anyway. So that's it. So talking about rape and sexual assault doesn't make you a feminist, it just makes you a decent human being because these things are wrong and these things are cruel. And then also to let you know, those of you young ladies who call yourself feminists, from a historical perspective, the first wave of feminists, the first generation of feminists, people refer to them as the suffragists, Suffragettes,
sorry. Suffrage is the idea of voting. So the first wave of first generation feminists, at least in the West, that procreation was around female involvement, active involvement in Civic Society, Civic Society, commercial life, and then political life. So they wanted women to vote. You know, a woman must be able to vote, just like men can vote. A woman must be able to run for office. A woman should be able to buy her own property, you know,
acquire her own land, you know, stuff like that. So I just. Want you to know where you're? Coming from, because nowadays people shout feminism, feminism and I start hearing all kinds of strange ideas and I'm like, from where to where, really. So if you study your history, those of you who call yourselves feminists, you will see that the initial movement was actually quite reasonable. The initial movement was actually quite reasonable.
And anyway, nowadays it's changing to something else because to say that women should be involved in Civic Society, a woman can be president, a woman can be governor. Oh, that's, that's fine. Absolutely, absolutely fantastic. So let me scroll through my messages again, OK? Because like I said, we're talking about lots of stuff. So to say women should be involved in civic, Civic Society is absolutely fine. Women can be governor, women can be local council chairman, and women can be anything makes a lot of sense to say that women can be involved in commercial activities.
It makes sense. Women should be able to run businesses. Women should be able to acquire land, acquire machine, acquire everything. Women should be able to vote, then be evolved in political life to everything. It makes absolute sense. But then nowadays there's a lot of weird ideas that are going on there. But basically, if you are in a position to do so, like my friend Eva who is still in 200 level in IMSU, go and check with your professors if they have feminist jurisprudence there.
It will help you. From a personal point of view. Also, from a legal point of view, go and know what it is that you're talking about because a lot of you are shouting feminism, feminism, but it's just a bunch of stuff that you've learned from from social media and anyway, one network. That's always my advice for. Most people anyway. Where was I? So talking about rape and sexual assault doesn't make you a feminist, it just makes you a decent human being.
And everybody, whether you're male or female, everybody actually should be against rape or should be against sexual assault. Because even if it doesn't affect. You personally, you know the people that are being raped, who are they? It's not our wives, it's not our sisters. It's not our mothers. It's not our cousins, it's not our daughters. So it's just a matter of decency. Everybody should be against that kind of rubbish behavior.
Anyway, that's a side note. The main thing that I wanted to say is so Ife wants to make money by talking about these things, right? That's the question. She says yes, she does. Good. So since she's talking about these things and since her audience, in theory, we're made-up of people who are interested in these sorts of things. Remember what I said earlier in the episode that how you make money as an influencer? You'll make money as.
An influencer by selling something or by endorsing something. So if you're in this. Situation now I want to start making money as an influencer. Is the next step not especially now that we have chargeability and not what not? Is it not to go and start doing research about the kind of things that you can sell? What about the kind of products that you can endorse or they can start doing affiliate marketing on your channel to your audience?
See, I understand that creativity. Is hard. That's the reason why I tell everybody to download these tools, because these tools are very good for ideation, for coming up with ideas. So my advice to ephere. Was you make money by changing value the. Value of exchanges. You will sell something physical or maybe you will sell a service because there's some people who are feminist influencers and you know, there are services that they run counseling services for victims of violence or, or maybe they run rehabilitation programs or things like that.
So you sell something physical, you will sell a service or you put together the audience and you will sell advertising or you will endorse something. That is what efair has to research. But I told her that is the reason. Why I tell people not to begin? This thing takes time. Building this kind of loyal audience takes time. So Aster, do you want to make? Money today or you want to make money in five years? She says she wants to make money today.
By the way, the reason why I am brutally honest and this very direct I'm having conversations with you is because I want you guys to make progress. All right, the more progress you make. The more money I make, if you're a success and people say cut soap for me, how did you do it? You will say you get one guy. When they call Tavi Shima, they will say TT what? And then you will introduce them to me and you say this is the guy who led me to the promised land.
And once you do that. Of course I'm going to make more money. So that's the reason why I'm directing people and I'm hashing people and I'm asking people these very, very frank conversations, 'cause I want us to make progress quick, quick, quick. Because if you make progress and you make money, I definitely will make money. You make good money, you pay me well. As you make good money and as you. Elevate in your situation, as you elevate in life and you refer me to people, you'll be referring me to people on a different strata.
So me and IFA were talking now she's in level 2. She won't always be in level 2. One day she will graduate and one day she will be a senator. When she's on a senator level and she's referring people to me, it will be senatorial connection. She will be sending my way. So Aster, do you want to make? Money. Now I want to make money in five years. She says She wants to make money today. I said no problem with the small audience that you have.
Start trying to sell something. So now, Esther. What do families buy? Her response was, I do not know, to be honest. And then I gave her the assignment that I'm going to give a lot of you because especially if you're not paying me money, I'm not going to rack my brain and come up with ideas about how to solve your problem like that. I've told you what the problem is. I've told you what the solution can be. The rest is up to you.
Go and do the research on your own so I. Told her What do you carry for? Phone you have ChatGPT or do you have Gemini and then she laughed. She says she has ChatGPT I say good these things are good for ideation. Why go and search? Go and do your research. What will feminist buy? Go and do your research. She came back later with some AI generated ideas and. As I read these things out. Now this is not me doing the research, this is her doing the research.
Please, I want you people to take it as proof that these tools work. The problem is a lot. Of you have them on your phone, you don't bother to experiment with them, but they're on your phone and they're on your computer and they are free. Take advantage of these things. You have money generating ideas sitting. I do in your pocket. What are you doing? You're using AI for photo generation. You're generating photos of yourself so that you look snatch and then you share it on your social media.
My friend use these things to research ideas that will help you make money. Now, whether for people who want free advice or people who pay for my services, my job is to help you discover the answers on your own. I'm not here to spoon feed you. So I always make sure that you we'll do some work to arrive at the answers. I will teleguide you. That's why I'm here in your life. But I'm not here to spoil feed you the answer Anyway.
So Jennifer came back and then she found some she found some interesting suggestions. She found some products that families will buy safety and protection. So like safety alarms, pepper spray one. The moment she said pepper spray, the thing like I understood the thing like it made sense because my sister-in-law, she sells cake and unfortunately she unfortunately she she has on running with some some some rough *** in her home side of town.
But luckily her and her girls that were together, they had pepper spray. So the pepper spray the guys and then one of them people had knife. I'm not saying that you should go and carry knife up and down. I'm just saying that you know it is what it is. Unfortunately, in certain parts of Niger and certain neighborhoods in Abuja or in Lagos or whatever, if you're going to be out late, you. Know for those of us who are self.
Employed. Sometimes you have to go and deliver late at night or go and deliver in a strange neighborhood. So anyway, pepper spray. So I was like, Oh yeah, OK, I know that lots of girls nowadays carry pepper spray. And then I know one real estate professional who has pepper spray any time we should go for sight viewing pepper spray in her handbag so that any teams just blind your idea. So personal safety items so families can buy a pepper spray,
they can buy GPS wearables. That's to track their whereabouts. Then there's also drink spiking test kits. I have no idea that this is on the market, but it makes sense anyway because I heard that this spiking thing is on the increase. Oh by the way, please, those of you who have children around, that's the reason why I say this episode is not suitable for children. I beg they shouldn't be listening to these sorts of things.
We shouldn't make our children nervous that the world is unsafe. Then feminist, feminist audience can also buy self defence and empowerment. So classes in martial arts, classes in safety, safety workshops, OK, that one already already been seen it even because even on LinkedIn already been seen it. People actually have those as businesses. So not just in the UK, you know, don't they enter Nigeria? I've been seeing some Nigerians who also sell those kinds of services.
Then healing and support services, that's a trauma therapy, survivor support, legal aid, OK, especially since IFA is a studying law. So legal support then education and awareness, you know, people can buy programs on gender violence training then obviously. Yeah, obviously. This one, I don't know, anything didn't come to my mind. But obviously feminists by feminist books, that one should have been an easy one to figure out.
But I don't know, that day my brain was was sleepy, so I didn't even think of that one. But yes, you know, if you have an audience and your feminist influencer, I mean, come on, you should sell feminist books. So now it should be straightforward. But somehow I didn't think of that. Then let's see what else then some digital and tech stuff. So safety tools, reporting tools, evidence reporting tools like recording apps and new stuff like that.
So this is just what Jennifer found when she did the search. Now, can you see, remember what I said at the beginning, that there's stuff that you can sell if you have a Prime Minister influencer? Can you see if you sit down on your own, it'll be hard to figure this thing out, but you take these AI tools, you create a quick prompt, you run this thing. And in less than 30 minutes, you already have some ideas. So feminist books, should I ever use AI tools to do some research and find feminist books that are popular in Nigeria or feminist books that a Nigerian audience might likely buy?
And then she can start buying them small, small and then try to sell to our audience. Some of the other things we spoke. About now. Pepper pepper spray drink spiking kids. So babes, I'd like to, you know, live a social life. You know they might be interested in the drinks spiking test kits. The classes the. Survival support, the legal aid, the therapy, the programs on the gender violence. You know there's some NGOs that do.
Lots of that stuff. Doing gender training against against gender violence in ministries, parastatals and and corporations here in Niger. Can you say that there's tough to sell, so don't lose? Hope if you're a feminist influencer or whatever kind of influencer, don't lose hope. There are things that you can sell. Just going to do some research. So I also told IFA that yeah. So yeah, we're making progress. You can become an affiliate because even if she doesn't want to buy some of these things and sell and then keep the profit,
she can become an affiliate. You find somebody who is a feminist book retailer and you tell the person that I have an audience. My audience is 50,000 strong. I've been building them over the last 10 years and all of them, they've been militant families just like me. So let's enter into an agreement. You give me your book, I go form book club. Would they do bookly review? Something, something, one thing, one thing. You know, every week we really discuss one book, one book, one book.
Any sales that you make? You give me 20% on each book so you can get into those sorts of arrangements. That is what we call affiliate because remember what I said in the beginning, affiliate just means that the team where they sell no beyond thing like the thing belongs to somebody else, but you partner with the person and too often you go run them together. That's what makes you an affiliate. No beyond thing. So the books that he felt will be selling are not her own.
They belong to a feminist publishing house or a feminist book retailer or something. Now be collecting 2020% on every single book that they sell by the way. OK, see the reason why I say that this thing is hard because even when you're collecting 2020%. So this is Niger, books are not really that expensive. So how much will you be selling? 11 book? One book would be like be like what 8K15 K? 2% of that is what doesn't make sense.
Think of the number of books that you have to sell for that kind of thing to make sense. So if you don't understand what I'm. Saying, let me repeat it again, because I've actually had a chat with a lady, one of my Township babes. She called in from the radio show and this was precisely the predicament. She's collecting percentage on each book, but each book IS88K1010K. If the book costs, it'll be 18K20K. But then she's only collecting in her own case, like 10% per book.
At the end of the day, Tino makes sense for her at all because at 10% of 20 K, well, you have to sell books upon books upon books upon books. OK, let's do the math now. 20K that's two and then that's three zeros. Then if you're. Going to do 10% that means you cancel 10 that will now be that'll be that'll be 2000 OK so if for each book that costs 20,000 you. Only get to keep 2. 1000, What would 2000 do for you? What will 2000 do for you?
You have to sell that thing. Units, units, units. You have to move units. And that's the reason why I say stop looking at the fact that you have 50,000 followers. Influence are people who. When they speak, people move. Now if you are an influencer, properly so-called an influencer, that one is not a problem. If you sell one book and you collect 2K from the book, well, by the time you speak, by the time you speak. 12,000 people.
Buy the book now I'm making sense. You see what I say? It's a hard game anyway. Maybe I'm lazy. Basha, it's a hard game. That's reason why I say don't even start Basha as a feminist. There are options. You can make it work. So she wanted to know whether when I say affiliate, I mean selling books on seller and stuff like that. Seller that is SELAR, but you know it depends because affiliates can't sell anywhere. So when we say affiliate is not about the platform.
So this arrangement that I'm talking about now let's say you have a radio show, let's say you call it the militant feminist radio show, right? And you're on the airwaves. It's still the same thing. You have an arrangement with the person who sells the books. You tell them that anybody that buys from you, you give me my 2% if you announce it on the radio show. And then after the radio show inquiries come in and then 8000
people ask for copies of the book. So long as they come through you. Those 8000 people, that would be 2000 naira Commission multiplied by 8000 people. No, Do the math. So. I feel it can be anywhere you can sell on the radio show. But you're trying to do this. Thing on the radio show. Let's say you're a radio show host like me. Make sure you give them a special code. You know that when you reach the publisher, tell the publisher to give the tell the tell them to quote the code.
RFRFAB J5 let's say that's the code. RF radical feminist. ABJ Abuja, your radio station is in Abuja. Then five, maybe you did it in the month of March. So that'll be the arrangement. Anybody that calls up the publisher and says, I heard from the radio show, they say I should quote RFAB J5 as my special code. Once I sit down as a special code, the publisher now knows. The bookseller now knows, if they're being honest, that that's how much they owe you.
That from that person is supposed to give you your your 10%. So. Affiliates you can sell anywhere. Radio show no problem. WhatsApp group no problem. Telegram group no problem. Facebook is still the same now affiliate. Amazon are still affiliate. Seller are still affiliate even from the church. There are some pastors that have that run these affiliate things. They come, they stand, they give. A sermon and they say oh this particular book blah blah blah blah blah and then they say buy the book and some of them are affiliates.
Then they run. Now all of you. Buy the book and then by the time they're submitting. It to the publisher, they say publisher, I remember my own is to 2% that 10% whatever. Then they collect their own. So affiliate income from anywhere, even from the church pulpit. So after that she said she has some more questions. I have to tell her that look, calm down, calm down. You know, Yoruba people say that when the handshake begin to reach elbow that there's a problem.
And I have to tell her that look, this handshake is reaching elbow. I extended my hand to say, let's shake her next. You're holding my elbow. Relax, relax, relax, relax, I said. Answer one question. This one we've continued to this level. I know, try for you. I try now. So now, so she laughed, and then? We started discussing how much the pay packages are and like I said, I have something all the way from big boys and big girls all the way to no get money like you're covered.
Monthly packages. Weekly packages, hourly packages, daily packages. We can work something out. So it's then that we started talking. We started talking money and yeah, that's it, Washer. The reason why I'm sharing the conversation with efair is because I'm hoping that some of you listening to the podcast right now who have dreams and who have desires of becoming influencers, you would have learned one or two things about how to perfect your strategy.
You understand, you also know what it really means to be an influencer because it's not just about the number of people that you have. Then I also hope that you've. Been able to learn about the and I put it. With the experiment. Of that if I and I did using ChatGPT, I hope you guys will be able to use that to brainstorm and do some research when you're trying to figure out what it is that you could be selling to your audience.
But remember my final recommendation, my final recommendation, if any of you ask me like you say, oh, talk to me like you're my older brother. My honest advice to you will be don't even start. There are easier ways to make money now. You say you're going to be doing running this influencer influencer thing. That is my honest advice as a senior brother. But if you insist that you must still do it, OK, sure, no problem.
At least I've told you guys this is how it needs to be done. Some of you will be asking why are you being sexist? Why are you only addressing women? I bet no vex, I'm not stereotyping. The reason why I've been addressing women all this influencer thing is because there has been no single one guy since I started this podcast who has told me I want to be an influencer. All the people who have said I want to be influencers, they're women.
So don't vex for me please. I'm only just responding to the people that ask me. There's no guy that has called me to say I want to be an influencer. There's only babes that have been saying it. It will also give you a hint about why I've been saying. Anyway, let me not talk too much, let me just leave it like that. So thank you very much for your time and attention.
