Today on the podcast, we're going to talk about personal pages versus company pages on social media. Which one should you have? So on LinkedIn, company page and personal page, on Facebook, company page and personal page, which one should you have? Which one should you use? Now, the reason why we're looking at this today is because there's a client that I did some work with earlier on in the year and I called him up to say, you know, boy, what's up?
How you been? How's the business? And we started talking about a bunch of stuff and one of them was this whole company page versus personal page. And he noticed that one of the things that we worked on, you know, while we were working together, you know, as per paid coaching engagement, one of the things that we're working on when we put it on his personal page, if he blew up bomb and guys started getting business from it, but then we'll put it on corporate page, just quiet,
nothing as in nothing at all, No traction, no business, no leads, no clients, no customer, no nothing once you put it on company page. But meanwhile, anything was on the personal page, phone call, the phone call turned into business, as in it was good. Was was was really, really good. So that's what we're going to be talking about today because he was surprised, but I was not surprised. And I'm going to explain to you guys why I was not surprised that that happened.
And then let's have some realistic expectations about what we can expect for social media right now and then in the time to come. So if you love these sorts of things, social media, how do we make money off of social media? How do you get clients from social media, these sorts of things, then this podcast is your jam. So stay here, subscribe, you know, stay tuned in on Spotify, YouTube, Apple or any player of your choice.
Oh, by the way, I'm making today's recording at home. You know, the kids are watching Teen Titans. It's it's a weekend. So that's why we have noise in the background. Now. I'm the host of the podcast. My name is Tavishima Ayede. If you'd love to connect, call, send a text message or WhatsApp message on 08064662140. So like I said today, now personal pages, company pages, as in which one should we be using? Some of you might not like this answer, but as a general rule, I
tend to say both when it comes to these sorts of things. As in instead of just trying one and ignoring the other, as in try two of them and see which one seems to be working. The one that seems to be working. Oh yeah, fire double down on that one. Then the one that doesn't seem to be working, maybe maintain or maybe take your foot off the gas. But either way, sure you've tried because when it comes to sales and marketing, sometimes is idea that you're using as per.
Let me just Chuck it. Let me see the one that works, the one that works double down. So there's a lot of theory and prescriptive practices when it comes to sales to say do this, do this, do that. But just know that sometimes when you're starting the journey is let's try and see which one, which one is working. Now, like I said, this pre wrong client of mine, we worked on a couple of things. We were trying to see how we could get referrals for his fashion business and he had recently made a wedding count for a bridal client, of course,
that he was very, very proud of. And and I told him that, look, this thing looks sweet. It looks nice. I don't understand the technicality, but I know that when bright to see this thing, the bridge will say, wow, this thing is cool. So I told him, let's put off some content on your social media. And then we worked on some stuff. I tried to I use that as a case study to show him how we can come up with compelling copy.
Copy just means text. You know the the words and the sentences that you use when you put up post, you can use social media to come up with good copy. So you can use AI tools, Google Gemini GPC to come up with good copy for your social media posts. And then we put it up there and I also shared it on my LinkedIn. Well, that's because you know, whenever I'm working with someone, you know, my progress is your progress. If I work with you and you blow you hammer, if anybody asks you,
you know, what was the secret cut? So for me, you say, is this guy that helped me, this guy Tara Shima, I said Tahu Tahu, you say Tava Shima. Now this is the podcast, this is the YouTube take the guy's phone number. So your success is my success. So, you know, as you're promoting your own me self, I go to promote on your behalf. And then he noticed something really, really interesting for him. If it was interesting. But you know, those of us in the business, we already know that that's just how it is.
So like I said, now the one that he put on his personal page, if he blew up people like people share people comments, people say how much they will say, are you free? Do you deliver? And, you know, he ended up doing some business. Then the one that he put on the company page, quiet crickets, no traction, no enquiries. And then he was surprised and he wanted to know how. And I had to explain to him that, you know, oh boy, it's just the nature of the game.
That's how the whole thing has been set up. The algorithms prioritize personal pages over business pages. The reason why is because all these people, Zuckerberg them all these people that own social media networks, if you're a business, they want you to pay. That is how they make money. So if you're on a business page, they want you to pay for people to see the thing they want you to pay for reach. Even on the personal pages right now, people have been complaining that engagement has been going down or LinkedIn engagement has been going down on Instagram.
It's, it's a fact because they want people to pay. If all of us just they watch for free, then how will Zuckerberg now make money? They want us to pay eventually. So what happens is social media networks, they come out and at first they want everybody to be on board. So everything will be free. And then engagement, you know, will be high. They'll just be showing your post to everybody. Then when everybody's on the platform now they need to make some money.
They'll now start saying, Oh yeah, pay for this feature, pay for this post to be boosted, pay for this, pay for this, pay for that. So that's what they're trying to do. So for business pages, whether on Facebook or LinkedIn, you want your business page to pop off, you have to PAY, pay. That is the reason why, one of the reasons anyway why there is more traction on personal pages. Now, this is also another reason why there's traction on personal pages.
And if you think about it, you know, it's kind of straightforward on the company page. Now you set up the company page, what do you do? You invest one day and you set it up. After that, you just forget about it. You hardly post on it. You hardly tell people to follow you, hardly nothing. So there's no followers, there's no audience, there's no engagement already on the page to begin with. So if you now go and drop something there, if you take something and go and drop in an empty marketplace, who will see it?
Nobody. Who will engage with it? Nobody. Because you deliberately left that square empty. You didn't have a plan. You set up your company page, you set up your company profile, you set it up one time and you didn't do anything. If you don't believe me, you who are listening to this podcast right now, you have a company page, right? You have a company profile. Go and check it. I can assure you for, for 90% of you listening to to this thing,
the last time any of you posted anything there was maybe December 31st or maybe like January 7th. The last time you posted anything there was 10 months ago. You posted Christmas, you posted New Year. After that you forgot. You haven't put up anything there since. So quite frankly, your company page is dead. That's the reason why if you put anything there, nothing will happen but your personal page now, at least that one once in a week at least, you drop something, you share a meme, you know you do something.
People are already kind of looking. You've been following people and people have been following you back. So there already seems to be some sort of traction so that when you drop something there, there will be some engagement. So you can see that these are the 2 main reasons why you will see that your personal profiles are performing better than your company profiles because #1 Zuckerberg, them and the people who own LinkedIn, they want you to PAY.
They want you to pay. So unless you pay, they will show it to people and then #2 you already don't care about your company page, your company profile anyway. You've not been doing anything there anyway. So you know, it's like that. Or you will prefer to say, if a tree falls in the middle of the forest and nobody's there to hear it, did it make a sound? So that's it, Pretty much the same thing. You drop it on the company page.
It's like a tree falling in the middle of the forest where there's absolutely nobody to hear. And if there's nobody to hear, there's nobody to engage with all the commotion. So you want things to perform well on your company page, you have to look for avenues to pay. Then also make sure you try and keep your company page, you know, alive, be putting content, be asking people to follow, you know, be, you know, some organic engagement.
So it will help when you now put stuff up there. So that was the first thing. And yeah, that's the first thing I wanted to share with you guys. So if there's any of you who's been noticing, why, why, why, what's the reason, This is precisely the reason. And just know that it will always be the case. Now, new social media networks, new social networks come up all the time. So if there's any new one that you're on right now, because I've been hearing people talk about what's this one called now, I can't remember.
There's one Chinese one. Then there's one that Gary Vaynerchuk has been talking about a lot. I can't remember. But anyway, in the beginning is the same. They want every, all of us to join there. So in the beginning, absolutely everything will be free and they'll be showing all your posts, all your followers, because they want to get all of us there. Then when the social media network is now full, when everybody's on board, they will now drop engagement and they will now start saying, oh, would you like people to see more of this post?
Click on this button to boost. Now click on this button to promote. Now set up, add account, set up this, set up that. So in the beginning, always take advantage of this free engagement. And that's part of the stuff that I'm riding on on LinkedIn right now. Yes, people complain that engagement is low, but The thing is LinkedIn now is still largely free. So I will keep on riding that wave. I'll continue riding this engagement wave until the time when anyway shine in the beginning when it's free, just ride that wave because the time will come when they will say you want people to see your stuff,
then pick. Then I also had to mention because it's one mistake that those of us who, you know, solo solopreneurs, people who work alone, self-employed, there's one mistake that we make and that's feast and farming. When things are going good, we take our foot off the pedal. We stop promoting because we're busy. Understandably. The problem with that is when you relax, then the phone calls will stop. When the phone calls stop, the conversations will stop.
When the conversations stop, no more close deals. When no more close deals, you will not start panicking. So I told him that look, it's been beautiful so far. What you do is do not stop. Continue. Even if you are busy, continue. Keep up this pace. We'll try and figure out how to cope with the over, you know, the over oversupply of work. We'll figure something out, but don't stop because what will happen is you stop. You say let me take a break for one month.
Let me not post or let me not promote or let me not share. Let me not whatever. Let me turn off the advertising campaign. Let me whatever it is that you're working. You say let me take a break for one month. Let me catch my breath. The thing is, you forget that you say one month, one month, two weeks will pass before I know it, 8 weeks before I know it. 12 weeks. Then one day you just notice. Where's my phone? Where's my phone?
I didn't hear my phone ring. Where's my phone? Where's my phone? You now find your phone under your bed. It's like this phone has not rang for one week. The reason why the phone has not rang for the past one week why no bride has been calling you to say how far are you available? Can you send to Maiduguri? How much does it cost? Are you available for December 21st? The reason why is because whatever it was that was working, you took your foot off the pedal.
You stopped with the advertising, you stopped with the boosting, you stop with the posting, you stop with the promotion, you stop with whatever it is that is working. So when we find something that works, my brothers and sisters keep it up. Consistency is the name of the game. That is how we avoid Feast and farming. Feast just means boku. Everything, set, enjoyment, flex, plenty of money, I mean demand. Then it's then the rush us.
They're chasing me that is Feast. Their farming is now Wow, now Wow, 15th of the month already, no single one phone call. What is happening? So let's avoid feast and farming. If it's working, stay consistent. Don't take your foot off the gas. If the work is too much, don't worry. There are things that we can do. You know, you can hire more people. It's going to be a problem for you creative enterprises. You know, like in his own case,
since he's doing fashion design, especially bridal. So it will be hard, but there are ways that you can catch up. Just don't do the feast and trimming thing. So that's all I wanted to share with you guys today. So if you notice that your personal pages are performing better, this is the reason why. Continue to ride that wave. Continue to ride that wave. They want us to pay for stuff. You're trying to avoid paying for stuff.
So you know, if you don't like it, just go ahead and pay for stuff and don't quarrel. Then if something is working, keep it up, be consistent so that you can avoid feast and family. And that's all for today. So thank you for your time and attention. Remember, subscribe Spotify, YouTube, Apple or any player of your choice if you love these kinds of issues. And if you would love to connect, you can call, send me a text message or a WhatsApp message on 08064662140.
